Mormon Hooked Rug

This rare and very punchy hooked rug was found at a garage sale outside of Ogden, Utah and brought east by the purchaser. It is definitely of Mormon origin as identified by the beehive and bees in the middle section. The beehive is a common Mormon symbol that represents industry, harmony and frugality of the people. It also speaks to the sweet results of their toil, union and intelligent cooperation. The houses and accompanying trees are very folky. Note the apples on the tree in the bottom panel. Dating to the late nineteenth or very early twentieth century, this textile is in great condition with good crisp colors. Professionally mounted by Kathy Wilson. Size - 32" x 21".

Berks County Bi-Centennial Quilt

Appliqué quilt made in 1945 for the Reading, PA bi-centennial celebration. Trailing vine and bellflower border with distilfinks, potted flowers and hearts on the primary field. The colors on this piece are extremely crisp and the stitching is excellent. The field is stain-free with only minor staining on the reverse edges in four spots. 100" x 96".

Shirred Wool Rug

19th century shirred wool rug on burlap backing. Crisp red flowers and green leafs surrounded by blue border on a variegated ground. Professionally mounted to hang vertically or horizontally. 71" X 39".
